Good news, Jim Jacobs, my mentor is now painting full time in Santa Fe and San Antonio. Jim is one of the creative geniuses that helped put Dallas on the map back in the early seventies with his wit, his ability to write and illustrate. So today, finding him painting, drawing and creating in the form of a true fine artist is such a great discovery. His work is alive. I can't wait to see more.

Aspen Chapel is the place this week where several Tibetan Buddhist Monks created an amazing work of art using colored sand. The focus and and discipline they display creating this work is phenomenal. After seeing Robert Rauschenbergs work in LA this past week it inspired me to pull out a lot of my past work and start assembling. What the next step is after it is assembled is not yet determined. It amazes me how Rauschenberg created so many pieces and he must have had countless skeptics. Working through all of that negativity and BS is one of the biggest challenges any artist can face. But living to see your work hanging in the museums and selling for millions must be the best revenge. RIP > RR.

Just a study but I think it is working. Pretty straight forward design, the idea of the dotted line is about the only concept in the piece. The idea of signing on the dotted line and your signature being all you need is quite a level of banking these days.

Pretty refreshing packaging design, clean and I'll bet looks sharp on the shelves. The typography is tired, but then it is an old brand, one step at a time I suppose. This is a cool design feature:

THE MECHANICS: Tropicana wanted a physical mnemonic for the brand. The design team at the Arnell Group took half of a mid-season orange and created a cap that mimicked its peel in both color and texture. Because you have to squeeze it and turn it, "the cap symbolically represents the essence of the message which is that it the juice is fresh squeezed," said Arnell. The cap is made from a special gauge of plastic with a soft rebound to it, he said. "It's got a tactile quality, not unlike an orange. It helped us create a whole new ritual for Tropicana."

One of the reasoning features of the name choice is the word is also a sound - the sound when there is an answer. Sounds logical. The logo is pretty anti-climatic for such a large endeavor. Not that I thought Google was a great mark. It goes to show you great company's can overcome bad design. Time will tell with this one.

Check out the updated Jack in the box logo. You know they will soon be know as "Jack". It is a great move. The new design looks to be highly interactive. Soon they will be on every PDA and ordering will be a click away. These guys are leading in the advertising world and they just took a big step towards the front in the branding world. Good things happen even in tough times. Tenacious Ali found a great little early 50's brick house in downtown Phoenix. She will receive a big tax break and she purchased the place for about a quarter of what it sold for a few years back.
